So the Oscar race begins and so far most of the contenders are set in the seventies or the old-timey slavery days. Take this new one for example, American Hustle directed by David O. Russell (The Silver Linings Playbook, The Fighter) hence the reason the cast might look vaguely familiar, is a fictitious tale about a con artist who goes to far (in a nutshell). It’s got a rockin soundtrack, butterfly collars and bell bottoms and did I see some cocaine? Cause that’s all the seventies were about? Oh wait porn…the seventies had a lot of porn.
Which leads me to my other Oscar runner “Lovelace” starring Amanda Seyfreid as the notorious pornstar Linda Lovelace. You see where I’m going here? You make one film about American hostages in Iran in the seventies and everyone thinks that’s the sort of picture you need to win. Hey it worked for Ben Affleck and it wasn’t that great of a film. I thought Beast of the Southern Wild was waaayyyy more original and the cast was amazing.
Btw, the little girl who played Hushpuppy in Beast…is in an old timey slave flick now, that is also in the Oscar running. This is some Illuminati shit (they don’t exist btw, especially not after every self proclaimed prophet, starting saying their name in lyrics, like they thought they were on to some shit…but I digress).
The film stars Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Christian Bale, Jeremy Renner, Louis C.K., Michael Pena, and Jack Jones. American Hustle opens in limited release on December 13th before going wide on December 25th.
